This page will be updated from time to time, so please keep checking.

Our format has changed and we have moved to the centre of Launceston. From April to July, we were in a school setting and operated along similar lines to a school. Now, we are handing over responsibility to the Ukrainian community. The sessions, if they continue, are likely to operate more as a social events. Therefore, our need for volunteers is greatly reduced. This is a time of transition and so we cannot be sure exactly what will be needed.

If there is a need, not yet covered by Cornwall Council’s Adult Ed provision, we might still need the following for Sunflower English during the week:

  • Adult education ESOL teachers – ideally with current enhanced DBS checks, for 1:1 or small groups of adults.

If the Ukrainian community would like the Saturdays to be used as an opportunity for teaching Ukrainian, then there will be a need for:

  • qualified Ukrainian teachers to work with Ukrainian children. We know an enhanced DBS check will take time, so you would be teamed with enhanced DBS checked staff.

Other ways of supporting:

  • drivers – we can’t oversee this, but if you are well known to somebody hosting Ukrainians, maybe you could offer to drive or collect their guests from a Sunflower Saturday in Launceston.

Please note that anyone volunteering on a regular basis will need an enhanced DBS check.

Please use the email address on the Contact page to register an interest in any of the volunteer roles on this page. Please:

put the role that interests you in the email subject line.

say whether you have an enhanced DBS check.

write a couple of lines about what qualifies you for the role that interests you.

Please note:

We value kindness and would like you to understand before contacting us, that we really appreciate every expression of interest. Unfortunately though, we do not have the time to respond individually – unless we need your skills immediately or in the very near future.

We hope that this will not put you off getting in touch, as we have no real idea of how demand for the sessions will evolve. Every response is potentially very helpful, especially if the sessions grow. Even if we don’t need your skills now, we might well need them further down the line, and we would get in touch with you then.
